Chiwan Ancient Fort

Located in Chiwan Village East, Nanshan District, the Chiwan Ancient Fort is a municipal cultural relic preservation and protection site. It was built during the reign of Emperor Kangxi (1654-1722) during the Qing Dynasty and served as the outpost of Dongguan (Nantou City). Originally, it was equipped with twelve iron cannons. Among all the forts along the Pearl River’s estuary, the Left Chiwan Fort and the Right Chiwan Fort are the most strategically placed. Known as the critical and dangerous ones, and used to serve as the two major coastal defense facilities during the Opium War.

Tomb of the Young Song Emperor

Tomb of the Young Song Emperor is a municipal cultural relic preservation and protection site located on the west side of Chiwan Village, Nanshan District. The tomb was built in memory of the last emperor of Southern Song Dynasty Emperor, Zhao Bing. However, the specific date of the building founding of the tomb is still unknown. Not until the 20th century did the Zhao ethnic people renovate the entire mausoleum in his honor. The new one is 9 meters deep, 5.5 meters wide and constructed with walls of sand and lime soil. On the tombstone there is the inscription "Tomb of the Young Song Emperor".
